ADC presidential primary scandal deepens as Ibrahim Wala calls the exercise a shameless auction and backs Amaechi’s rejection of the outcome
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ibrahim Garba Wala, has condemned the party’s presidential primary as a “shameless auction,” in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, intensifying controversy surrounding the outcome of the opposition party’s internal election.

Ibrahim Wala made the remarks while reacting to the rejection of the primary results by former Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, who had earlier described the exercise as lacking transparency and fairness.
Presidential ADC primary scandal has since triggered fresh internal tensions, with party stakeholders divided over the credibility of the process that produced the outcome.
Wala, a known supporter of Amaechi, aligned himself with the former governor’s position, insisting that the exercise failed to reflect democratic principles.
He described the primary as a deeply flawed process, alleging that it amounted to a transactional arrangement rather than a legitimate democratic contest.
“What we witnessed during the primary elections was not a democratic primary; it was a brazen, shameless auction that betrayed every value the ADC promised to uphold,” Wala stated.
He further called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to distance himself from what he termed “dirty, concocted primary election results,” although no official response has been issued by the individuals mentioned.
Scandal has drawn attention within political circles, particularly following Amaechi’s earlier rejection of the outcome on the grounds that it did not meet expected standards of fairness.
Party leadership has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations as calls for clarification continue to mount.
