Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo Seeks PDP Support for Oyo 2027 Bid

Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo seeks PDP backing for Oyo 2027 governorship, consulting legislators to strengthen his bid and succession plans.

IBADAN, Nigeria, November 27, 2025 – Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo on Thursday visited the Oyo State House of Assembly to seek lawmakers’ support for his 2027 governorship ambition under the Peoples Democratic Party.

The visit followed his formal declaration at the PDP State Secretariat in Ibadan two days earlier.

Addressing legislators, Ajadi described his aspiration as “a call to serve” and said the decision came after appeals from political elders and traditional communities across Oyo State.

“I stand before you today, 27th November 2025, to seek your leadership, mentorship, and guidance as I offer myself to succeed our great leader, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde,” he said, stressing the legislature’s central role in democratic governance.

Deputy Speaker Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi commended Ajadi’s approach, highlighting its significance within Oyo Central Senatorial District.

“Governor Seyi Makinde is from Ona-Ara, and Ambassador Ajadi is from Egbeda. Both fall within Oyo Central. I would be delighted to see someone from Egbeda succeed him,” he said.

Chief Whip Oyekola Gbenga Joseph underscored the importance of succession planning, adding, “Success without a good successor is failure. The battle is not for the powerful but for the resilient.”

Lawmakers noted that Ajadi is the first governorship aspirant to formally present his ambition before the Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections, interpreting the visit as a mark of respect for democratic institutions.

Ajadi was accompanied by key PDP figures, including Egbeda Local Government Chairman Alawe Olawale, Ward 8 Leader Lukman Akinpelu, and Councillor Teslim Raji.

The PDP aspirant’s formal declaration at Molete, Ibadan, attracted leaders and supporters from all 33 local government areas.

The full 39-member Oyo State PDP Executive Committee and 33 Local Government Party Chairmen attended, signalling strong early backing.

Speaking after the declaration, Ajadi cited ancestral duty and a commitment to humanitarian service as motivations for his political entry.

“I am rooted in both Ogun and Oyo States, but my father’s land has called me to Oyo,” he said.
