Nyesom Wike Declines 2027 Presidential Run Out of Principle, Loyalty for Tinubu

Nyesom Wike declines 2027 presidential run, saying loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and his integrity prevent him from contesting while Tinubu is in power

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, has stated clearly that he will not contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja, Wike explained that despite the Peoples Democratic Party zoning its ticket to the South, he will not run while President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him, remains in power.

“I will not run. I have integrity, I have character. There is no way my appointer is there, and we are saying he should run, and then I turn around and say I should run,” Wike said firmly.

The former governor stressed that his decision is based on loyalty and principle rather than political convenience.

He also emphasized his enduring love for the PDP, stating the party would have ceased to exist if not for his commitment.

Wike added, “I don’t need to be a governor before I cause problems that may likely affect the PDP. No opposition party can survive serious internal crises. The duty of the opposition is to resolve problems, not create more.”
