The two-day event, taking place on 12 and 13 November at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, will bring together editors from print, broadcast, online and wire agencies across Nigeria.
The annual conference, organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), serves as a forum for dialogue on governance, national development and the evolving role of the media in democratic societies.
In a statement jointly signed by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the guild confirmed that President Tinubu will declare the conference open, while the Sultan and Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of ThisDay Newspapers, will chair different plenary sessions.
This year’s theme, “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” reflects a renewed focus on journalism’s responsibility in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. Governor Uzodimma will deliver the keynote address, setting the tone for discussions on the future of editorial leadership and civic engagement.
A key highlight will be a panel discussion on the sub-theme, “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” featuring academics, legal experts and security professionals.
Speakers include Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), who will speak on “Media, Terrorism and National Security: Addressing the Complexities”; Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), addressing “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics”; Prof.
Sheriff Ibrahim of the University of Abuja, on “Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation”; and Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi of Baze University, who will examine “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption and Credibility Gap.”
According to the statement, the second day will feature an executive session where editors will engage directly with government officials, policymakers and business leaders.
