Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, praised Abuja’s residents for living intentionally in peace and harmony, despite some challenges.

He attributed the city’s calm atmosphere not only to the administration’s security measures but also to the residents’ zero tolerance for insecurity.

“Residents have remained intentional about living together in peace and harmony in spite of a few distractions.

Consequently, the FCT has become one of the most peaceful places to reside in the entire country,” Wike said.

The Minister urged residents not to become complacent and called on them to remain vigilant, encouraging the reporting of any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

He reassured the public of his administration’s continued commitment to security and law and order.

Looking ahead, Wike reminded the public about the forthcoming Area Council elections in February 2026, where Abuja will lead Nigeria’s election season.

He appealed for peaceful campaigns and urged voters to elect leaders with genuine concern for their communities.

“I implore residents to go about campaigning peacefully and to vote for leaders who have the vision and capacity to bring development and prosperity,” he stated.

Wike’s remarks came amid recent tragic news of the death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a reporter with Arise Television News, who died trying to escape armed robbers.
