Amaechi’s Presidential Ambition Declared Dead on Arrival by FCT Minister Wike

Amaechi’s presidential ambition faces a tough road as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike says his 2027 bid is dead on arrival, citing lack of public support and party backing

Amaechi’s presidential ambition has been dismissed as “dead on arrival” by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday, Wike expressed doubt that former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi would succeed in securing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi, who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025 after losing the 2022 APC presidential primary to Bola Tinubu, is now pursuing the opposition ADC nomination.

However, Wike, who shares a political history with Amaechi as a former Rivers State governor, confidently predicted that Amaechi’s presidential ambition will not materialize.

“He (Amaechi) knows he won’t get the ticket,” Wike stated. “I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him, but he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary.”

Wike added, “Nigerians know the last person they will give a ticket to because they know it (Amaechi’s bid) is dead on arrival.”
