Lagos APC Defends Tinubu’s Assent to Electoral Act 2026

Lagos APC defends Tinubu’s assent to Electoral Act 2026, dismisses opposition criticism as politically motivated

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended President Bola Tinubu’s assent to the Electoral Act 2026, describing the backlash as politically motivated and disconnected from Nigeria’s national interest.

In a statement issued by party spokesperson Mogaji Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC expressed disappointment at what it called an orchestrated outcry by opposition groups over the approval of the amended law.

The party said governance should be guided by constitutional duty and prudence, not by popularity contests or social media pressure.

It rejected opposition concerns regarding real-time transmission of election results, arguing that such systems pose technological, cybersecurity, and legal challenges, as evidenced in other democracies.

Lagos APC stressed that electoral reform is not the exclusive domain of opposition parties. The statement highlighted that Tinubu’s approval followed constitutional processes, legislative debates, and institutional consultations, and that the reforms were undertaken to ensure sustainable and legally defensible improvements to Nigeria’s electoral system.
