The appeal was made on Thursday at the palace of the Sarkin Bwari, His Royal Highness Alhaji Awal Musa Ijakoro II, where Gombe led party officials to pay homage and seek royal blessings for the party and its candidates.
Professor Gombe emphasised that local government represents the tier of governance closest to the people, responsible for addressing grassroots concerns.
He urged voters to assess candidates based on competence, accessibility, and integrity, noting that area council leaders are expected to live among the community and understand its challenges.
Highlighting the SDP’s commitment to people-centred governance, Gombe assured residents that the party would prioritise economic empowerment, security, and improved service delivery at the grassroots.
He also praised the party’s chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, as a capable leader poised to implement SDP’s policy objectives effectively.
Former SDP presidential candidate, Barrister Adewole Adebayo, stressed the critical role of local governance in national development, stating that efficient community leadership reduces pressure on the federal structure and ensures equitable management of services and development initiatives.
He encouraged residents to vote responsibly and remain vigilant against electoral malpractice.
Addressing the media, Abubakar Abdullahi pledged to promote inclusive governance and grassroots-driven development if elected.
He highlighted the importance of a leadership structure that accommodates all community segments, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and opportunities.
