The appointment was ratified at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held Friday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

It follows the Supreme Court’s April 4, 2025 decision confirming that Barr. Julius Abure’s tenure had legally expired.

Prominent stakeholders present included Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, his deputy Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

In a communique, jointly signed by Senator Usman, Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Interim Secretary), Chief S.O.Z.

Ejiofor (BoT Chair), and several labour leaders, the party clarified that these appointments would stand until proper congresses and a national convention are held.

The communique stated: “This leadership arrangement is temporary and based on constitutional compliance as confirmed by the apex court.

The Labour Party remains united and committed to internal democracy.”

Senator Nwokocha added, “This transition is guided by due process. The party is not entertaining any alliance talks at this stage, contrary to media speculation.”
