ADC Warns Federal Government on Kwara Terror Risk

ADC warns federal government over rising terror in Kwara State, calling for urgent security measures and rescue of abducted citizens

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned the federal government not to treat the worsening security situation in Kwara State as isolated, describing it as a potential early warning of territorial expansion by terrorists.

The statement was issued on Monday by the party’s spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Abdullahi criticised President Bola Tinubu for attending a fishing festival while terrorist attacks and abductions escalate, claiming over 1,300 Nigerians have reportedly been killed in 41 days, with hundreds still in captivity, including nursing mothers and children.

“The President got his priorities wrong, indicating a frightening loss of touch with reality when he chose to attend a festival while funeral processions grow longer across the country,” he said.

The ADC highlighted a video allegedly linked to the Kaiama abductions in Kwara State, showing insurgents openly challenging official victim counts.

The party described this as a brazen attempt by terrorists to control the insecurity narrative, signalling growing boldness and the potential establishment of a safe haven in the region.

“The Kaiama axis provides a direct link into Oyo State. Any sustained insurgent activity within this corridor could therefore create wider vulnerabilities across parts of the North Central and South West,” Abdullahi warned.

He stressed that the situation in Kwara should be treated as a strategic threat, not an isolated incident.

The ADC outlined urgent measures it expects from the federal government, including robust rescue operations for abducted citizens, a transparent briefing on victim numbers, a security audit of the Kaiama and Kainji Lake forest corridor, strengthened interstate security coordination across Kwara, Niger, and Oyo States, and credible public communication to counter terrorist propaganda.

Abdullahi concluded by emphasising that Nigerians “are tired of assurances on security while citizens continue to be slaughtered,” calling for a government and president who visibly prioritise protection and national safety.
