Kwankwaso Denies Alleged Secret Deal With Tinubu

Rabiu Kwankwaso has denied allegations of a secret political alliance with President Tinubu, calling the claims false and misleading

Former Kano State governor and leader of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that he is secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso made the denial during an interview with Global TV, where he described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

He said those spreading the claims do not understand the realities of Nigerian politics, insisting that his political movement remains independent and focused on national interest.

“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu. My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians,” he said.

The former presidential candidate noted that while he shares a long-standing personal relationship with President Tinubu, such ties do not translate into political alignment.

According to him, both leaders have known each other for years but belong to different political camps with distinct ideologies and objectives.

Kwankwaso also accused some individuals within the presidency of failing to properly inform the president about the country’s worsening economic and security situation.

He alleged that rather than addressing national challenges, some aides are more focused on political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC leader further spoke about his coalition arrangement with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, explaining that the alliance followed extensive consultations.

He said the coalition identified Obi as a strong southern candidate and believes the partnership offers Nigerians a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.

Kwankwaso added that there is still ample time before 2027 for the coalition to engage Nigerians and correct what he described as misinformation being spread about their political intentions.

He maintained that the alliance is focused on providing effective leadership and addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
