Kwankwasiyya Vows Unstoppable 2027 Victory Despite NDC Setback

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has declared that no judicial manipulation or political intimidation will derail its 2027 ambitions with the Nigeria Democratic Congress and Peter Obi

Spokesman for the Kwankwasiyya Movement Dr Muhammad Sale Habibu issued a defiant statement on Tuesday 30 June 2026 in Nigeria, asserting that no judicial setback, political intimidation or administrative obstacle would stop the movement’s determination to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the 2027 general elections.

The movement, closely associated with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, reacted to a recent court judgment nullifying the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the party that recently uploaded the name of its presidential candidate Peter Obi to the Independent National Electoral Commission portal.

In the statement, the Kwankwasiyya Movement expressed concern over the judgment, which set aside an earlier decision directing the NDC’s registration.

It reaffirmed its commitment to a government founded on justice, competence, equity, accountability and genuine welfare of the people, as consistently articulated by Senator Kwankwaso.

While respecting the judiciary’s constitutional role, the movement raised questions about the integrity of the democratic process and political pluralism.

It suggested the timing of the litigation, coinciding with INEC’s preparations for 2027 nominations, fuels public perception that powerful forces seek to shrink the democratic space.

The statement highlighted divergent legal opinions on whether the court had jurisdiction to set aside its own final judgment, calling for transparent resolution by appellate courts to safeguard public confidence.

It warned that yesterday’s target was the African Democratic Congress, today the NDC, and tomorrow any other opposition platform.

Dr Habibu urged the judiciary to remain the last hope of the common man, INEC to act strictly within the law, and Nigerians, civil society and the international community to monitor developments closely.

The movement expressed unwavering commitment to the NDC as a platform for democratic renewal.

This latest development builds on Monday’s announcement by NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson, who confirmed the party had filed an appeal and stay of execution, served papers on the INEC Chairman, and successfully uploaded names including that of Peter Obi to the portal.

Dickson had assured members of ongoing reconciliation and adherence to INEC timelines.

The exchanges come amid heightened political activity as parties prepare for the 2027 polls.

Earlier, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, running mate of the African Democratic Congress, had warned about politicians stealing result sheets at polling units and endangering INEC ad-hoc staff, underscoring broader concerns over electoral integrity.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement concluded that democracy thrives on a level playing field and genuine competition, expressing confidence that truth, justice and the rule of law would ultimately prevail.
