Jigawa Approves ₦75bn Supplementary Budget for Projects

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, who disclosed that ₦58 billion is earmarked for the state government while ₦17 billion is allocated to local governments, covering both recurrent and capital expenditures.

According to the commissioner, the Jigawa Supplementary Budget aims to strengthen key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture.

It will also address unforeseen fiscal needs and ensure public spending remains responsive to the state’s development goals.

“The approved figures are ₦58 billion for the State Government and ₦17 billion for the 27 Local Government Councils, covering both recurrent and capital expenditure components,” he stated.

He added that the proposal would be submitted to the Jigawa House of Assembly for legislative approval in accordance with constitutional requirements.

The commissioner emphasised that this financial move reflects the Namadi administration’s focus on transparent governance and strategic fiscal management.

“It’s about aligning public expenditure with current socio-economic realities.

The supplementary budget offers support for continuity and fresh interventions,” he said.

Earlier in the year, Governor Umar Namadi signed the largest appropriation bill in Jigawa’s history, totalling ₦698.3 billion.

That budget allocated a record 76% to capital projects — a move the governor described as transformative.

“This year’s budget is the highest in the history of Jigawa State.

It is designed to restructure the state into a greater one,” Namadi remarked at the time.

He reiterated that sustained investment in capital development will serve as a platform for long-term economic growth, employment generation, and improved living standards for citizens.

The supplementary funding further underlines Jigawa’s development-driven strategy, with the administration continuing to prioritise tangible progress over short-term gains.
