INEC’s Muhammed Haruna says political parties, not INEC, are mainly responsible for low FCT voter turnout
INEC National Commissioner Muhammed Haruna has expressed surprise that the Commission is being blamed for low voter turnout in the recent FCT Area Council elections.

Speaking on Trust TV, Haruna said INEC’s role is to provide civic education and guide citizens on voting, but political parties are responsible for mobilizing voters.

He noted that parties have extensive memberships and that INEC cannot endorse candidates, though the Commission remains committed to encouraging participation, as shown in the recent elections.
