In a statement released on Monday, the Public Affairs Officer, Olurode Musa, quoted the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, urging parties to conduct their primaries in a transparent, democratic, and peaceful manner.
INEC highlighted that party primaries often generate legal disputes ahead of elections, emphasising that these challenges can be avoided if all parties follow the established rules.
The Commission noted that its national headquarters has scheduled primaries between November 24 and December 15, 2025, warning parties against holding contests outside the approved timetable.
“The Commission is ready to support political parties during their primaries and will collaborate with security agencies to ensure peaceful processes,” the statement said.
INEC added that it will closely monitor all party activities and take legal action against any party that fails to comply. The Commission reiterated that internal democracy is crucial for credible elections and political stability.
