Imumolen Denies Allegiance to Adeleke in Accord Crisis

Chris Imumolen has firmly denied pledging allegiance to Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, stressing his only concern is restoring legitimate leadership in the Accord Party through the courts before the 2027 elections

Factional Accord Party presidential candidate Chris Imumolen denied reports that he had pledged allegiance to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Day Break programme, Imumolen clarified that he had no personal or political loyalty to any individual and was focused solely on restoring the party’s rightful structure through the judicial process.

“I have not pledged any personal allegiance to Governor Adeleke. I have no issue with anyone aspiring to political office,” he stated.

Imumolen explained that his legal battle centres on reclaiming the chairmanship position he believes he legitimately won.

He expressed concern that allowing irregularities in the party’s leadership could produce candidates who might later lose elected offices due to legal challenges.

“My only concern is ensuring that the right process is followed in Accord, so the party does not produce a governor who could lose office over irregularities,” he said.

The Accord Party has been embroiled in a protracted leadership tussle that has created factions within the relatively small party.

Imumolen maintained that his intervention was aimed at protecting the integrity of the platform ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than aligning with any governor or power bloc.

He emphasised that he would continue pursuing the matter through the courts to ensure due process is observed.

Political observers note that such internal wrangling is common in smaller parties as they position themselves for potential alliances or relevance in the coming election cycle.

Imumolen’s denial comes as speculation continues over possible realignments involving Accord Party ahead of 2027, with several opposition figures already shifting to larger platforms like the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
