Goodluck Jonathan praises Mike Oghiadomhe as a rare and trustworthy ally in Nigeria’s challenging political landscape, describing politics as rife with betrayal and falsehood.

At the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff and deputy governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, held in Benin City, Jonathan shared candid reflections on loyalty and friendship in Nigerian politics.
Jonathan highlighted the scarcity of genuine allies in Nigerian politics, especially recalling the difficult 2015 election.
“Politics in Nigeria is about betrayals. You find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and in the evening,” he said.
“Mike is somebody who would take a bullet on my behalf.”
Jonathan’s tribute underscored Oghiadomhe’s steadfastness, describing him as one of the few friends willing to “give up their necks” for him both during and after his presidency.
The event attracted notable dignitaries, including former Edo State governors Lucky Igbinedion, Osarhiemen Osunbor, Adams Oshiomhole, and Ibrahim Dakwambo of Gombe State.
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, representing Governor Monday Okpebholo, praised Oghiadomhe’s foundational work in Edo State’s governance, acknowledging the lasting influence of his tenure as deputy governor.
Former governor Lucky Igbinedion expressed full confidence in Oghiadomhe’s leadership, saying he had no reservations handing over the state’s affairs to him during his travels abroad.
Adams Oshiomhole, speaking at the occasion, shared his unwavering political loyalty to Oghiadomhe, stating:
“Wherever Jonathan is, that is where I will be.”
