Lagos APC Dismisses Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 Return as Sentimental Gamble

Lagos APC dismisses Jonathan’s 2027 comeback, calling it a sentimental move lacking the bold vision Nigeria needs amid pressing national challenges

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), downplayed the possibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan mounting a credible comeback, citing both constitutional ambiguity and political irrelevance.

Oladejo acknowledged Jonathan’s 2015 peaceful concession of defeat — an act globally praised — but argued that today’s Nigeria requires strategic vision, not emotional recollections.

“We’ve moved beyond the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism. The challenges of today demand bold, forward-thinking leadership,” he added.

According to him, Jonathan’s 2010–2015 administration left Nigeria grappling with unchecked corruption, insecurity, and economic stagnation — a legacy, he said, not worth repeating.

“Nostalgia is not a policy platform. Sentimentality cannot fix power shortages, insecurity, or youth unemployment,” he declared.

Oladejo also raised concerns over the constitutional implications of Jonathan’s potential return, stating that having served more than one term, such a move would spark legal battles and political instability.

“Nigeria cannot afford distractions at a time when decisive reforms are needed across all sectors,” he said.

He further questioned Jonathan’s recent political alignments, pointing to his interactions with the APCand absence from PDP rebuilding efforts, which he claimed cast doubt on the former president’s loyalty and clarity of purpose.

Positioning the APC as Nigeria’s party of progress, Oladejo emphasized the need to engage the electorate with “fresh ideas and credible candidates” who resonate with a young, dynamic population.

“The future of Nigeria does not lie in recycled leadership but in innovation, integrity, and resilience,” he said.

While maintaining that Jonathan remains a respected elder statesman, the Lagos APC insists that legacy is not leadership, and that “emotional shortcuts” must not shape Nigeria’s future.

“As 2027 approaches, let us not reach backwards in desperation, but move forward with courage and clarity,” Oladejo concluded.
