Speaking during a political gathering in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Fayose openly backed both leaders, despite being a staunch opposition figure.
“I hereby endorse publicly, without reservation, President Bola Tinubu for a second term. I also endorse our governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term,” Fayose declared to a cheering audience.
Describing the event as a “unique gathering,” he noted the presence of past governors, state leaders, and National Assembly members as a symbol of growing political unity in Ekiti.
Fayose emphasized that his endorsement was based on merit and performance, not party loyalty.
“I am not a member of his party and I will never be, but I have seen good work. Oyebanji’s humility and leadership deserve another term,” he added.
Recalling his own sweeping victories across Ekiti’s 16 local governments and 177 wards, Fayose threw down the gauntlet to Oyebanji to match that record.
In a lighter moment, Fayose mocked party defections while praising the APC’s growing momentum:
“I congratulate all the decampees; they should continue decamping. It’s a good thing — except me, I’m coming nowhere.”
He also lauded former governor Segun Oni for fostering unity and urged others to emulate the cooperative spirit in Ekiti.
The endorsement is a major win for the APC in Ekiti, as it gears up to strengthen its hold ahead of 2027.
