Nwangwu, who chairs the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA), made the remarks on Monday while speaking on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.
The elections, held over the weekend, saw the ruling All Progressives Congress win five of the six Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured victory in Gwagwalada.
Reports from several polling units across the six area councils indicated low participation by registered voters.
Reacting to the development, Nwangwu said observers agreed that the elections were largely peaceful but expressed concern over poor turnout, particularly in cosmopolitan areas where many residents work in the city but reside in the suburbs.
“Observers agree the elections were peaceful in FCT’s six area councils. However, voter turnout was low, especially in cosmopolitan areas where people work in the city but live in suburbs,” he said.
He also noted that some registered voters were unable to cast their ballots due to the curfew, urging citizens to take civic responsibility seriously.

“Citizens must engage in civic responsibility by voting. Not voting is actually voting for something else,” Nwangwu added.
