El-Rufai backs ADC as a credible alternative to APC and PDP ahead of 2027 elections, urging Nigerians to embrace inclusive leadership
Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has backed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a viable political alternative in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections, speaking in Jos on Wednesday at the unveiling of the ADC National Contact and Mobilisation Office.

El-Rufai said widespread dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has created a major opening for a party that reflects citizens’ demand for accountability, unity, and competent governance.
He argued that Nigerians across regions and age groups are frustrated with leadership failures and unmet promises by the two dominant parties.
Highlighting the ADC’s strengths, El-Rufai pointed to the party’s inclusive structure, which reserves 40 percent of leadership positions for young people and 35 percent for women.
He said this approach distinguishes the ADC from the APC and PDP, offering genuine representation instead of recycling the same political actors who have dominated national leadership for decades.
El-Rufai also reflected on Plateau State’s history, lamenting the deterioration of peace and stability in the once-thriving tourism hub.
He expressed confidence that renewed leadership rooted in competence, sincerity, and unity could restore the State’s identity as the “Home of Peace.” He called on residents to support the ADC as a platform capable of bridging ethnic and religious divides.
Jamilu Datti, Plateau State ADC Contact and Mobilisation Coordinator, echoed these sentiments, emphasising that Nigerian youths bear the heaviest burden of poor governance, including unemployment, insecurity, and gaps in education and healthcare.
He urged young people to engage with the ADC, describing it as a party that genuinely prioritises their welfare and participation.

El-Rufai predicted that the 2027 elections would mark a shift in public sentiment, framing the contest as one between entrenched political elites and millions of Nigerians seeking a new direction.
