Desmond Elliot withdraws from APC Surulere primary, citing intimidation and urging a peaceful and fair electoral process

Desmond Elliot announced his withdrawal during the ongoing primary exercise, telling party members that his decision was guided by the need to prevent violence and maintain peace within the constituency.

The Desmond Elliot APC primary withdrawal came as tensions reportedly rose at the venue of the exercise, where aspirants and delegates had gathered to select the party’s candidate ahead of the next general election.

“Good luck. Thank you, and God bless you,” he said before stepping aside from the contest.

Elliot explained that he chose to leave the process in order to avoid any escalation that could result in unrest, stressing that political ambition should never come at the cost of human lives.

He further urged the leadership of the APC to ensure a transparent, fair and credible primary process across Lagos State, calling for reforms that would strengthen internal democracy within the party.

The lawmaker’s withdrawal adds a dramatic turn to the Surulere 1 primary contest, which has attracted significant attention due to Elliot’s dual profile as both a politician and entertainer.
