Enugu PDP Loyalty Holds Strong Amid Defection Rumors

Enugu PDP loyalty amidst defection rumors grows stronger as stakeholders affirm support for the party, dismiss speculations over Governor Mbah’s rumored APC move

Enugu PDP loyalty amidst defection rumors remains firm, as prominent party stakeholders in the state reaffirmed their commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite swirling speculations about Governor Peter Mbah possibly defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The declaration was made on Friday in Enugu during a press briefing led by Okey Ozoani, former PDP Vice Chairman in the state, under the banner of the Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum.

Addressing journalists after a strategic meeting, Ozoani emphasized that the group comprises founding PDP members and grassroots leaders, determined to preserve the party’s legacy.

“We are deeply concerned about recent defections, especially to the ADC. But Enugu has been PDP since 1998, and we won’t watch it be balkanized,” Ozoani said.

He slammed former PDP leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, for allegedly engineering internal crises before defecting.

“We are not defectors; we are defenders. The PDP will win the next elections because it’s in Enugu people’s DNA,” he asserted.

On the controversial National Secretary role, Ozoani defended Senator Samuel Anyanwu and accused defectors of stirring instability.

He labeled threats by Southeast members to leave over SKE Ude-Okoye’s non-appointment as unfair, citing regional balance within the party.

Regarding speculation about Governor Mbah’s potential defection to APC, he noted, “If it happens, many of us will remain in the PDP. Not everyone will follow him.”

Nicholas Ozonsi, a former Udi LGA Chairman and ex-aide to Senator Ike Ekweremadu, added that the governor has not made any public statement about leaving the party.

“But no matter what, we are prepared to hold the fort,” he affirmed.
