Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday, 23 April 2026, in Bauchi, Nigeria, hosted African Democratic Congress chieftain Peter Obi alongside South-East political stakeholders in a closed-door meeting centred on national unity, political cooperation and future realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Government House, brought together key political figures including former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Senator Victor Umeh, alongside Obi’s delegation.

Governor Bala Mohammed described the engagement as a non-partisan discussion, stressing that it was not driven by party interests but by the need for national cohesion and political understanding across divides.

He noted that both ruling and opposition blocs were currently undergoing political transitions, suggesting that emerging dynamics could eventually reshape alliances ahead of future elections.

Mohammed stated that the conversation reflected broader efforts to build bridges across regions, adding that ongoing political consultations were necessary in a fluid democratic environment.

He also emphasised that the discussions were not intended for public disclosure in detail, describing parts of the dialogue as sensitive political exchanges between stakeholders.

Peter Obi, speaking during the visit, said the engagement was aimed at strengthening unity and encouraging collaboration among leaders from different parts of the country.

He dismissed speculation of party alignment or defections, insisting that the purpose of the meeting was strictly national in outlook rather than partisan in nature.

According to him, the focus was on building consensus among political actors to address national challenges and promote a more cohesive Nigeria.

The visit is part of a wider series of consultations by political actors across party lines, as realignments and strategic engagements intensify ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
