Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State delivered his remarks through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, calling on citizens to remain law-abiding and alert to threats against public safety.
“As a responsible and responsive government, we place high premiums on the security of lives and property,” Mohammed stated.
“We will continue to collaborate with security agencies to improve the peace prevailing in the state.”
The Bala Mohammed Independence Message called for active citizen participation in security efforts by reporting suspicious movements or individuals to law enforcement authorities, underscoring the shared duty of protecting the state.
“There can be no prosperity without peace, and no peace without law and order,” he said, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s post-colonial journey since 1960, Governor Mohammed acknowledged the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers, while noting that economic and political development has not fully matched expectations—especially when compared to countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.
“It cannot be said that our achievements are commensurate with the length of time of our existence as an independent nation,” he admitted.
However, he praised Nigeria’s democratic progress over the past 26 years since the end of military rule, stating that democracy had “taken firm roots” and its dividends were increasingly visible.
The Bala Mohammed Independence Message also highlighted the strides Bauchi State is making under his administration, particularly in infrastructure and economic development.
He announced that the state will host an investment summit on 8–9 October to attract new capital and explore opportunities to harness Bauchi’s economic potential.
“The role of government is to create the conditions where the sacrifice of the people is not in vain, their efforts are recognised and rewarded, and there is hope that a bright and prosperous future lies ahead,” he said.
