Bala Mohammed defection plans prompt IPAC to urge consultation, as Bauchi governor weighs exit from PDP amid ongoing political consultations
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Bauchi State has urged Governor Bala Mohammed to consult the council before finalising any decision on a possible Bala Mohammed defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to another political platform.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, IPAC’s state chairman Auwal Isa said the council remains open to guiding the governor through any transition process, noting that such a move would have significant political implications within and beyond the state.
Isa emphasised that Governor Mohammed has the constitutional right to join any political party of his choice, describing the ongoing developments as part of Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
He added that several political parties are reportedly showing interest in the governor, given his influence in Bauchi State and across the country.
According to Isa, IPAC is prepared to support and advise the governor to ensure that any decision taken aligns with broader political stability and the interests of the people.
He noted that a Bala Mohammed defection would likely reshape political dynamics in the state and could energise activity across party lines.
The advisory council’s comments come amid heightened political engagements involving the Bauchi governor, who has recently been at the centre of consultations with multiple political actors.
Reports indicate that Mohammed met with a delegation from the African Democratic Congress led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal at the Ramat House in Bauchi.
In a swift response to the emerging political signals, a delegation from the All Progressives Congress, led by National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Kano State Governor Kabiru Abba Yusuf, also met privately with Governor Mohammed at the Government House.
The closed-door meeting reportedly lasted about an hour and ended without public disclosure of its outcomes.
Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, has previously voiced frustration over internal divisions within the PDP.
He has accused factions aligned with Nyesom Wike of hindering reconciliation efforts despite multiple initiatives at both state and national levels.
He further revealed that he had engaged in discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on several occasions in attempts to resolve the crisis within the PDP, underscoring the depth of consultations surrounding the party’s internal challenges.
As speculation continues, Governor Mohammed is expected to announce his next political step on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
