Atiku Abubakar urges FCT voters to reject APC and back ADC candidates in upcoming Area Council polls
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Atiku Abubakar has called on voters in the Federal Capital Territory to reject candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in next Saturday’s Area Council elections.

Atiku Abubakar made the remarks in a post on his X handle after campaigning in Gwarimpa alongside other ADC leaders, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Both politicians have indicated interest in contesting the 2027 presidential ticket under the ADC banner.
“We have been speaking with voters about why this election is important and why ADC candidates should be the right choice,” Atiku wrote, emphasising that the FCT Area Council polls will test the Independent National Electoral Commission’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.
The former Vice President also criticised the APC-led federal government under President Bola Tinubu, accusing it of failing to address economic, educational, and security challenges, and of allowing criminal elements to hold citizens hostage.
“This election is very important. It will say a lot about how ready the managers of our elections are to deliver free, fair and credible polls. It will also say a lot about how ready people are to chase the APC out,” Atiku added.
He urged FCT residents to defy intimidation and vote for ADC candidates, highlighting that the party has fielded candidates with competence, capacity, and character to deliver quality leadership across the territory’s local councils.

“The APC must be voted out in the coming elections, and we should start with the FCT elections,” Atiku concluded.
