Atiku Abubakar explains absence at Olubadan Ladoja’s coronation

Atiku Abubakar attributes his absence at Olubadan Ladoja’s coronation to protocol arrangements, assuring his respect and congratulations to the new monarch

Atiku Abubakar explained on Tuesday that protocol arrangements were behind his absence at the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Speaking during a visit to the new Olubadan’s private residence in Ibadan, Atiku, alongside former Senate President Iyorcha Ayu and other prominent African Democratic Congress members, clarified that it was not an intentional slight.

“We regretted that we didn’t attend the coronation. It was not intentional. Protocol arrangements did not allow us to come during the coronation, not that we don’t want to come,” Atiku said, extending his congratulations and apologies to Oba Ladoja.

Ladoja, who received his staff and instrument of office from Governor Seyi Makinde last Friday, became Olubadan following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, in July.

In response, Oba Ladoja declared his transition from politician to monarch, promising to uphold justice and fairness throughout his reign.

“I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. I am the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said, pledging to serve the people of Ibadan and beyond with impartiality and honour.
