The decision followed consultations within the party in Borno South, where consensus reportedly shifted in favour of Ndume as the preferred candidate.
According to a statement issued by his aide, Bilyaminu Umar Ngulde, Askira accepted the outcome after being urged by party stakeholders to withdraw from the contest.
He described the decision as one taken in the interest of unity and progress within the party, noting that he fully respected the internal process that led to the endorsement of the incumbent senator.
Askira subsequently called on his supporters across Askira-Uba and the wider senatorial district to support Ndume’s bid, while also urging calm and cooperation among party members.
He further appealed for continued harmony within the APC, stressing that political cohesion was essential for development efforts in Southern Borno.
