APC Announces Major South-West Congress in Lagos

APC South-West zonal congress Lagos 2026 as party prepares major restructuring meeting at Onikan Stadium ahead of national elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, announced that it will hold its South-West Zonal Congress on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of ongoing internal restructuring ahead of future elections, in what reflects preparations for the APC South-West zonal congress Lagos 2026 agenda.

The announcement was contained in a joint statement issued by the South-West Zonal Chairman, Mr Isaacs Kekemeke, the Zonal Secretary, Mr Vincent Bewaji, and the Zonal Organising Secretary, Mr Lateef Ibirogba.

According to the party leadership, the congress is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and forms part of a broader national effort approved by the APC leadership to strengthen internal structures ahead of the party’s national convention and subsequent electoral cycles.

The party stated that the gathering will provide a platform to assess its performance in the South-West geopolitical zone, improve internal unity and reposition the APC for stronger electoral outcomes.

Party officials also outlined the categories of statutory delegates expected at the event, in line with provisions of Article 12.7 of the party’s constitution.

These include zonal executive members, serving and former governors from the region, members of the National Assembly, state party chairmen, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Caucus members, and other designated delegates.

The leadership assured members that adequate security and logistical arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise, adding that coordination with relevant authorities is ongoing.

The South-West zone, which comprises Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, remains a key political stronghold for the ruling party.

Observers say the congress is expected to play a significant role in consolidating leadership structures, strengthening alliances and reinforcing party unity ahead of upcoming political contests.
