Federal Government Orders Remote Work Ahead of APC Convention

APC convention remote work order prompts federal offices in Abuja to operate remotely as roads close around the Federal Secretariat

The Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work remotely on Friday, March 27, 2026, in preparation for the All Progressives Congress national convention scheduled to hold at Eagle Square.

The directive was contained in an official circular issued on Thursday and signed by Abdul Garba, Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The APC convention remote work order was introduced alongside security and logistical arrangements aimed at managing expected traffic and public movement in the capital.

According to the circular, access roads leading to the Federal Secretariat Complex, covering Phases I, II and III, will be closed from Friday, March 27, through Saturday, March 28, 2026.

The closure is intended to facilitate crowd control and ensure smooth coordination around key government and event locations during the convention period.

The Federal Government explained that the decision was necessary due to the use of Eagle Square, a major venue in Abuja, for the ruling party’s national convention.

The event is expected to attract party leaders, delegates, and supporters from across the country, prompting heightened security and infrastructure planning in surrounding areas.

All ministries, departments, and agencies located within the affected sections of the Federal Secretariat have been instructed to comply with the remote work arrangement.

Personnel working in these offices, including those at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are expected to carry out their duties from home for the duration of the closure.

The circular also directed heads of ministries and agencies to ensure strict adherence to the directive and to communicate the arrangements clearly to all staff members.

This is to ensure continuity of operations while minimising disruption caused by restricted access to the area.

The APC convention remote work order reflects broader efforts by authorities to balance administrative continuity with public safety and event logistics during major political gatherings.

Such measures are typically implemented to reduce congestion and maintain order in high traffic zones within the Federal Capital Territory.

As preparations continue for the convention at Eagle Square, attention remains on how the capital manages movement, security, and government operations during the event, which is expected to be one of the most significant political gatherings ahead of the next electoral cycle.
