Adebayo expressed his concerns in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mark Adebayo, head of the media and communications directorate of the Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign.
The SDP candidate said he was saddened by reports that NDC supporters had been shot at while gathering at an airport to welcome their governorship candidate.
“I’m saddened by the news of the shootings at the supporters of NDC whose only crime was to go to the airport to welcome their governorship candidate,” he said.
Adebayo also criticised what he described as selective protection by security agencies, insisting that the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) must carry out their duties impartially, regardless of political affiliation.
He argued that security agencies, funded by taxpayers, had a responsibility to protect all citizens, political parties and candidates.
“The targeted attacks on opposition members while security forces look away is a dangerous trend that must stop immediately,” he said.
The presidential candidate called for a full investigation into the reported shootings and urged the authorities to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
“We demand a full-scale unbiased investigation into the Enugu killings and the perpetrators must be brought to swift justice,” he added.
Adebayo further urged Nigerians to resist intimidation and political oppression, warning against the use of fear and financial inducements to influence voters.
“Do not sell your future for temporary handouts and do not back down in the face of state-sponsored fear,” he said.
He also called on citizens to protect the integrity of the electoral process and defend their right to choose their leaders freely.
Adebayo pledged solidarity with progressive political forces working towards peaceful and credible elections, stressing the importance of protecting democratic participation.
His remarks come amid concerns over political violence and the safety of party supporters during political activities.
