APC blames opposition parties’ internal mismanagement for recent defections, insisting the ruling party remains committed to democratic principles
The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday in Abuja attributed recent defections from opposition parties to internal mismanagement rather than any interference by the ruling party.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, told Arise TV that challenges facing the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress were largely self-inflicted.
Morka explained that political parties are intended as platforms for members to contest elections and aspire to leadership.
He said the inability of opposition parties to provide such platforms drove members to seek alternatives.
“When politicians join a party, they join the party because they want to be able to compete for power and run elections.
But when that vehicle becomes immobile or inoperable, then it ceases to function as a party, and that’s the problem they’re dealing with,” Morka stated.
He insisted that the APC continues to uphold democratic norms and maintains open doors for all Nigerians. Morka criticised opposition spokespeople for focusing on the APC rather than strengthening their own parties.
“We are doing more than expected to deepen democracy. Citizens are free to choose their political affiliations, and any claim that the APC has interfered in other parties is unfounded,” he said.
Morka’s comments come amid a wave of high-profile defections over the past year. Governors including Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Peter Mbah of Enugu, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers have switched allegiance to the APC, prompting political realignments across multiple states.

The African Democratic Congress described these defections as evidence of personal convenience and a lack of political conviction.
