Suswam Wins APC Benue North East Senate Primary Landslide

APC Benue Senate primary result sees Gabriel Suswam and Francis Ottah Agbo clinch senatorial tickets in separate APC primaries

Former Benue State Governor Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam on Monday emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Benue North East (Zone A) after securing 131,083 votes in a decisive contest.

The result of the APC Benue Senate primary saw Suswam defeat incumbent Senator Emmanuel Memga Udende in an election conducted across seven local government areas, including Katsina-Ala, Logo, Ukum, Konshisha, Vandeikya, Kwande, and Ushongo.

The outcome has been described by party observers as a significant political development in the state, given Suswam’s return to a major electoral contest after previously serving as governor of Benue State.

In a separate primary for Benue South Senatorial District, former lawmaker Francis Ottah Agbo emerged winner amid controversy and allegations of attempted imposition within the party structure.

The contest initially drew several aspirants, including former senatorial contender Hon. Daniel Onjeh, who later announced his withdrawal from the race, citing alleged irregularities and concerns over candidate imposition.

Despite his withdrawal, Onjeh’s name remained on the ballot, where he polled 4,570 votes.

Final results showed Agbo securing 58,760 votes to clinch the ticket, while other contenders recorded varying totals, including Hon. Joseph Ojobo with 6,782 votes, Engr. Oloche Agidani with 5,246 votes, Nelson Alapa with 4,312 votes, and Patrick Ojechema Idoko with 2,732 votes.

Meanwhile, results from Benue North West (Zone B) senatorial primary are still being awaited as the party concludes collation processes.
