Civil society groups in Anambra call for the removal of REC Queen Elizabeth Agwu, alleging a plot to rig the upcoming senatorial by-election for a preferred candidate
A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Anambra State has called for the Anambra REC removal, accusing Resident Electoral Commissioner Queen Elizabeth Agwu of plotting to manipulate the upcoming senatorial by-election in favour of a particular candidate.

In a statement signed by Chairman Chukwumah Okeke and Secretary Felix Okechukwu, the coalition alleged that Agwu had “prepared results” ahead of Saturday’s vote and vowed to declare her preferred candidate as the winner regardless of the actual ballots cast.
The group urged INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu to immediately remove Agwu to safeguard the integrity of the poll and prevent “avoidable embarrassment” to the electoral body.
“We are stakeholders in Anambra State politics… and we are getting a dangerous signal about the infamous action of the Anambra REC over her sinister bid to sabotage credible polls,” the statement read.
The CSOs also appealed to the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) to intervene on behalf of other political parties, warning that failing to act could plunge the by-election into chaos and lead to costly post-election litigations.

According to the coalition, only the deployment of a new REC could guarantee free, fair, and credible polls in Anambra this weekend.
