Aiyedatiwa student welfare drive continues as Ondo governor urges private investment in student hostels and promises enhanced technical education
Aiyedatiwa student welfare policies received renewed attention on Wednesday as the Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, called for increased collaboration to tackle pressing challenges in the tertiary education sector, particularly student accommodation.

The governor made this call during a meeting with representatives from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, held at the Governor’s Office in Akure.
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, Aiyedatiwa commended the student community for maintaining peace and order under his administration.
“We have not had any major unrest since I assumed office, and I want to thank you for that. It speaks volumes about your leadership,” he said.
Addressing the persistent issue of student housing, the governor appealed to private investors to seize the opportunity to construct hostels within and around university campuses across the state.
“The government cannot provide everything. Resources are limited. That’s why we are calling on investors to build hostels for students on or near campuses. It’s a viable venture that will also enhance student security,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
The Aiyedatiwa student welfare agenda also includes a focus on technical and vocational education, which the governor described as essential for Ondo’s future industrial growth and job creation.
“We are paying more attention to technical education. Investors are coming, and they will need skilled labour,” he added.
The governor also addressed recent complaints about unstable electricity supply at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), expressing optimism that the problem would be resolved quickly to improve academic output and research conditions.
As part of broader efforts to support student mobility and wellbeing, Aiyedatiwa approved five new buses for student bodies across tertiary institutions in the state. He promised that more allocations would follow in the coming months.
“We remain committed to empowering young people through scholarships, grants, and infrastructure,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education and youth development.
Kelvin Olaolu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, lauded the governor’s initiatives, saying, “You have been a father to us. Your style of leadership has brought peace to student unionism in Ondo State.”
