The pan-Yoruba socio-political group made this call after the Senate rescinded Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension, describing the move as a reaffirmation of the rule of law.
“We commend the Senate President, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate leadership for their commitment to the rule of law,” said Afenifere’s National Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu.
However, the group insisted that the serious allegations must be fully investigated, questioning the absence of concrete evidence after six months.
Omololu urged relevant authorities — including the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, and National Intelligence Agency — to conduct a thorough inquiry.
Highlighting Akpoti-Uduaghan’s previous false sexual harassment claims against former presidential aide Reno Omokri, which ended in an out-of-court settlement, Afenifere expressed scepticism about the current accusations.
The group further criticised the senator’s choice to publicise her claims through international media outlets such as BBC, CNN, and Deutsche Welle, warning that such actions could tarnish Nigeria’s image globally.
They also questioned her participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union session in New York, suggesting possible manipulation of public institutions.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 after a dispute in the Senate and her petition accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment was dismissed on procedural grounds.
Despite a court order to halt the suspension, the Senate proceeded, freezing her pay and barring her from official duties.
She challenged the suspension in court, linking it to her allegations, and her case drew worldwide attention.
After resuming her duties in October 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan labelled Akpabio a dictator — a claim quickly refuted by his media aide Kenny Okolugbo.

The controversy remains unresolved, with Afenifere’s demand signalling continued pressure for clarity and justice.
