Adeyemi-Doro APC endorsement follows his withdrawal from the Osun governorship race, with the APGA candidate citing the state’s best interest
Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, the All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate in the 2026 Osun State election, on Monday, 10 August 2026, in Nigeria, defended his decision to withdraw from the race and endorse All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, saying the move was motivated by what he considered the best interest of Osun State and its people.

Adeyemi-Doro explained his decision during an interview on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief”, days before the Osun governorship election scheduled for 15 August.
The APGA candidate said his withdrawal followed extensive reflection and consultations, arguing that political leadership should ultimately be about public service rather than personal ambition.
“My decision to declare support for the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate was for the best interest of the Osun people,” Adeyemi-Doro said.
He said he had entered politics with the intention of serving rather than simply seeking political office.
“I entered politics really with the purpose of service, not merely to occupy an office,” he said.
Adeyemi-Doro added that stepping aside was consistent with his understanding of leadership, particularly when personal ambitions come into conflict with what he believes is the wider interest of the electorate.
“Leadership sometimes requires the courage and humility to ultimately place the collective interest of the people above personal ambition,” he said.
His decision has altered the shape of the Osun governorship contest just days before voters are due to go to the polls.
Adeyemi-Doro’s withdrawal and endorsement of Oyebamiji were first announced on Sunday, with reports saying the APGA candidate had consulted supporters and party officials before taking the decision.
The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is seeking to unseat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke in the closely watched contest.
Adeyemi-Doro’s backing therefore gives Oyebamiji an additional political endorsement at a crucial stage of the campaign, although the extent to which it will translate into votes remains uncertain.
For APGA, the development means its candidate will no longer contest the governorship election as originally planned.
The decision also reflects the fluid political calculations surrounding the Osun election, where parties and candidates have continued to seek alliances and support ahead of polling day.
Adeyemi-Doro stressed that his decision was not presented as a rejection of public service but as an extension of his stated commitment to serving Osun.
He said his consultations had helped him reach the conclusion that supporting another candidate was preferable to pursuing his own ambition when he believed a different political choice would better serve the state.
The 2026 Osun governorship election is taking place against the backdrop of a competitive contest involving the incumbent administration and opposition parties seeking to take control of the state. The election is scheduled for 15 August 2026.
For Oyebamiji, Adeyemi-Doro’s endorsement comes at a sensitive point in the campaign, while for the APGA candidate, the decision closes his own bid for the governorship and begins a new phase of political alignment.
Whether the endorsement will materially influence the final outcome will ultimately be determined by voters across Osun State.

For now, Adeyemi-Doro has chosen to place his political weight behind Oyebamiji, insisting that the decision was guided by service to the people rather than the pursuit of office.
