Ademola Adeleke Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms PDP Loyalty

Ademola Adeleke denies defection rumours to ADC, stresses his commitment to PDP ahead of 2027 governorship election in Osun State.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dismissed recent rumours suggesting he plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the reports as a calculated attempt to create confusion and destabilise the political atmosphere in Osun State.

Despite previous speculations that Adeleke might join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor reaffirmed his dedication to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and confirmed he will contest the next governorship election on the party’s platform.

The speculation resurfaced amid internal disagreements within the PDP’s national leadership, prompting fresh rumours about Adeleke’s possible defection.

However, Adeleke’s spokesperson strongly denied these claims, emphasising that the governor remains fully committed to the PDP.

“Our attention has been drawn to a report that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The report is not only untrue but we want to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Governor Adeleke remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any party for that matter,” Rasheed said.

The statement further stressed Adeleke’s focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Osun, who gave him a strong mandate three years ago.

The governor, alongside PDP leaders, is currently mobilising party structures ahead of the ongoing voter registration exercise in preparation for the 2027 elections.

“The series of unsolicited endorsements of Governor Adeleke is rattling those afraid of the will of the people.

Those behind this latest round of misinformation are trying to sway support by exploiting the governor’s huge goodwill,” the statement added.

Osun’s PDP has been facing defections to the APC, with notable lawmakers and senators leaving the party to align with President Bola Tinubu’s ruling party.
