The faith-based institution, established by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, chose Osun State as its host.
Governor Adeleke commended the founders for the selection, noting that an educated citizenry strengthens democracy through constant scrutiny of those in power.
“The mileage of the First Republic was expanded by the late Bola Ige administration through its free education programme. That legacy was built upon in the new Osun State to guarantee an active citizenry ready and capable of resisting tyranny, impunity, and lawlessness,” Adeleke said.
He added, “An educated populace cannot be deceived; they know the truth of governance. They are not swayed by fake news because they rely on verified facts. They appreciate good leadership and detest anti-people governance. Educated citizens assess their leaders daily; they know liars from those genuinely serving the state.”
Adeleke assured the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of the full cooperation of his administration and the people of Osun.
He said the establishment of Minaret University, alongside other public and private institutions, would further promote scholarship and good governance in the state.
“With Minaret University and other upcoming private institutions, alongside existing colleges and universities, Osun will continue to advance in scholarship and good governance,” the governor added.
Earlier, Chancellor of the university, Azeez Alatoye, said academic activities had commenced with programmes in Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management.
Explaining the university’s mission, Alatoye described it as a citadel of excellence grounded in knowledge, discipline, moral uprightness, and service to humanity.
He urged pioneer students to embrace discipline and excellence while shaping the culture of the institution.
In his address, Prof. Abdur-Rahman, the Vice-Chancellor, affirmed his commitment to transforming Minaret University into a world-class institution focused on intellectual and manpower development for sustainable socio-economic growth locally, nationally, and internationally.
Dignitaries expected at the ceremony included the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, alongside other distinguished guests.
