Prince Ademola Adegoroye commends Tinubu for continuing the Akure–Ado Road Project and defends Fashola’s key role in initiating the infrastructure upgrade
Akure, Ondo State – Former Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for sustaining the Akure–Ado Ekiti Road Project, describing it as a display of “statesmanship” and a strong commitment to continuity in infrastructure development.

In a statement released in Akure, Adegoroye highlighted Tinubu’s first-hand knowledge of the road’s strategic importance, noting that the president had personally travelled the route during the 2014/2015 Buhari campaign and witnessed its poor condition.
The former minister’s remarks came in response to recent comments by senior lawyer Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), who credited the current Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, with initiating the project.
Adegoroye took issue with this, insisting the groundwork was laid under Babatunde Raji Fashola during the Buhari administration.
“To give Umahi the credit instead of Fashola is blatantly unfair and beats my imagination, especially since the facts are in the public domain,” Adegoroye said.
He further disclosed that both he and former Minister of Industry, Niyi Adebayo, played vital roles in getting the project approved.
The duo were supported by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi in advocating for the road’s rehabilitation.
Adegoroye emphasized that Fashola, during his tenure as Works Minister, had not only redesigned and expanded the project scope but ensured its durability for future generations.
While acknowledging the ongoing efforts of Minister Umahi, Adegoroye said continuity should not come at the expense of historical accuracy:
“This isn’t about discrediting current efforts, but about setting the records straight. Credit should go where it’s due,” he added.
He also addressed recent discourse comparing governance outcomes in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo with those in Ekiti, Osun, and Ondo, urging fairness in such comparisons.
“Governors in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo are in their seventh year. In contrast, those in Ekiti, Osun, and Ondo have spent less than four years in office,” he said.
Adegoroye praised the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Governor Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa (Ondo).
He described Ayedatiwa as a “quiet, strategic, and focused administrator,” whose policies are beginning to yield visible results.
He concluded by urging public commentators and political analysts to seek proper information before making public claims.

“I don’t believe Chief Akintola meant to mislead, but statements like that, without verification, distort the facts and misrepresent contributions,” he noted.
