ADC Spokesman Claims Peter Obi Was Most Favoured in Party Leadership Race

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi says Peter Obi was most favoured within the party, while dismissing claims of internal crisis behind recent defections

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi enjoyed more preference within the party than any other aspirant during his time in the ADC structure.

Bolaji Abdullahi made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television’s *Prime Time*, where he also addressed recent political defections involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

He noted that while the departure of both politicians was significant due to their political influence, it did not weaken the party’s broader coalition-building efforts.

Abdullahi explained that the ADC’s strategy has been focused on forming a wide political alliance aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress in future elections.

He said internal discussions within the party reflected a shared belief that Nigeria’s current political direction required a united opposition platform.

Responding to claims that internal crises influenced Obi’s exit, Abdullahi dismissed the explanation, arguing that it did not reflect the full picture of events within the party.

The ADC Peter Obi favoured claim emerged as he insisted that no aspirant had received more attention or political consideration within the party than the former presidential candidate.

He also addressed concerns about legal disputes within the ADC, stating that the party currently faces only a limited number of cases, which he described as minor in nature.

Abdullahi maintained that the coalition effort remains focused on building a strong political structure capable of competing effectively in national elections.

He further suggested that differing political expectations among key figures contributed to internal disagreements prior to their departure.
