Kano Governor Condemns Tragic Killing in Renewed Bandit Crisis

Kano bandit crisis deepens as Governor Abba Yusuf condemns Zahra Allalai’s killing and orders strengthened security deployments

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday in Tsanyawa paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Zahra Allalai, the woman killed during a recent bandits’ attack on Kamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, describing her death as a painful loss to the state.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, the governor met the family shortly after armed groups launched coordinated assaults across settlements along the Kano–Katsina border, an area repeatedly targeted by kidnappers and cattle rustlers in recent months.

Governor Yusuf prayed for Allah to grant Zahra eternal rest and comfort her relatives, noting that her killing reflected the alarming spread of violence across previously peaceful communities.

Following the condolence visit, the governor proceeded to meet troops of the Joint Task Force operating in Shanono and Tsanyawa, where he received a strategic briefing on the security situation.

At the Forward Operating Base in Faruruwa, Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General A. M. Tukur, detailed recent encounters, including the November 1 ambush that claimed two soldiers and a vigilante and destroyed two military gun trucks.

Brigadier General Tukur explained that although the armed groups have retreated deeper into border communities, troops remain firmly committed to protecting civilians and clearing criminal elements from the region.

Governor Yusuf said the killing of Zahra Allalai and the continuing abductions in Tsanyawa highlighted the severity of the Kano bandit crisis. He described the infiltration as deeply troubling but added that security deployments were beginning to yield results.

He disclosed that he had briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who directed the Chief of Army Staff to send reinforcements with additional personnel and equipment.

The governor assured troops that his administration would provide full support to help them neutralise what he called a dangerous cancer threatening the state.

Addressing residents of Tsanyawa, Governor Yusuf vowed that the government would not relent until all abducted victims were safely reunited with their families. He appealed for calm and reaffirmed his commitment to logistics, welfare and operational backing for security agencies.
