The Adedamola PDP primary followed the late withdrawal of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the contest.
Chairman of the Primary Committee Hon. Humphery Abba confirmed that 957 of the expected 990 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He disclosed that the contest initially had two nominees, Governor Ademola Adeleke and Adebayo Adedamola, before Adeleke announced his exit from the race just hours before voting commenced.
During the announcement of results, Hon. Abba stated that the poll recorded 20 void ballots, with all valid votes cast for Adedamola, who received 919 votes.
He declared him duly elected and returned as the party’s flagbearer.
The outcome marked a decisive moment for the Osun PDP, coming amid intensified internal debates over the future direction of the party.
Delegates described the voting process as smooth and orderly, while observers noted the firm security presence that ensured an uninterrupted exercise.
The victory positions Adedamola as the frontrunner for the 2026 governorship election and signals the beginning of what party insiders describe as a critical realignment ahead of the campaign season.
