Ogun Governor Abiodun Strengthens Security Amid Rising Threats

The governor highlighted the need to maintain Ogun’s peaceful status as insecurity intensifies across other parts of Nigeria.

In a post on X, Abiodun said, “As we often say, the best time to prepare for war is during a time of peace. Ogun State is currently regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, if not the most peaceful, and it is important that we continue to protect and sustain that standing.”

The governor stressed that sustaining peace requires proactive measures and regular engagements with security officials to prevent potential threats from escalating.

“To maintain this position, we must stay proactive, strengthen our preparedness, and put in place the right measures to mitigate anything that could threaten our peace and stability,” he added.

Abiodun noted that the meeting was part of broader efforts to safeguard residents and ensure a stable environment.

“These formed part of our remarks as we engaged with the service chiefs this morning, reaffirming our shared commitment to keeping Ogun State safe, peaceful, and secure for all,” he said.

The meeting comes amid a surge in attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits across Nigeria. Last Friday, 215 students and 12 teachers were abducted from St Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, though 50 students were later confirmed to have escaped.
