Gbenga Daniel’s Suspension Rocks Ogun APC Amid Feud With Governor Abiodun

Gbenga Daniel’s suspension by Ogun APC over alleged anti-party activities sparks political tension amid rift with Governor Dapo Abiodun

Gbenga Daniel’s suspension by the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sent shockwaves through the party, amid ongoing speculation of a bitter political fallout with Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The former governor and current senator representing Ogun East was suspended alongside his loyalist, Kunle Folarin, over what the party described as “anti-party activities” and misconduct.

The party’s State Working Committee (SWC) ratified the indefinite suspensions on Tuesday, following recommendations from their respective ward disciplinary panels in Sagamu.

Ogun APC spokesperson, Nuberu Olufemi, disclosed in a statement that Daniel failed to honor repeated invitations to defend himself against allegations from Ward 4 in Sagamu LGA. Similarly, Folarin did not respond to summons from Ward 6.

“They were invited in writing to attend disciplinary meetings but chose not to respond or present a defense,” Olufemi said.

“Instead, they attempted to pressure party members into withdrawing their petitions.”

The party further alleged that both suspended members harassed fellow APC members and tried to undermine the integrity of the disciplinary process.

Gbenga Daniel’s suspension comes on the heels of rising tensions between the senator and Governor Abiodun.

The recent move by the Ogun State government to mark a hotel and residence linked to Daniel for demolition has added fuel to the alleged rift.

The SWC emphasized that the indefinite suspensions were necessary to preserve internal party discipline and uphold its constitution.

“This action demonstrates the APC’s commitment to due process and internal accountability,” Olufemi added.
