APC Condemns Turaki’s Call for Foreign Intervention

APC condemns Turaki’s foreign intervention call as reckless and unpatriotic, urging Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s leadership

Abuja, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for calling on foreign governments to intervene in Nigeria.

The ruling party described his appeal as “reckless, unpatriotic and a dangerous assault on national sovereignty.”

Turaki, appointed by a faction of the crisis-ridden PDP just three days ago, urged foreign powers to act to prevent what he alleged was “Christian genocide” and to “protect democracy.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC labelled Turaki’s comments as irresponsible and reflective of desperation.

“For a man declared National Chairman barely 72 hours ago by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki looked and sounded desperate, at his wit’s end, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking in stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis,” the party said.

The ruling party criticised Turaki for failing to focus on unifying PDP’s warring factions, instead seeking external interference.

“His first official act as factional chairman was a call for foreign invasion of Nigeria to resolve his party’s internal crisis. That is as shameless as it is a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty,” the statement added.

The APC also reminded Nigerians that during PDP’s 16-year rule, no faction ever sought foreign intervention to settle internal disputes, arguing that Turaki’s remarks reveal the party’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions.

The party urged the international community to dismiss Turaki’s appeal, calling it “a pitiful distraction from the PDP’s failure of internal democracy and embarrassing disintegration.” The statement warned that the opposition’s desperation is now evident, including the willingness to invite foreign interference to advance a political agenda.
