Oluyede, a medical expert and newly elected flagbearer, made the appeal on Monday in Ado Ekiti during a visit to Mrs Funmi Ogun, one of the aspirants he defeated in Saturday’s primary election.
The PDP candidate commended Ogun’s sportsmanship and spirit of reconciliation, noting that her phone call to congratulate him after the primary reflected genuine party loyalty.
“I am proud to say that with unity, Ekiti will soon be under the PDP government, with me on the driver’s side,” Oluyede said.
“My visit to Mrs Ogun’s campaign office today is a show of gratitude for her hand of fellowship. Politics is about negotiation, and she is now one of the strongest supporters of my cause.”
Oluyede emphasised that his victory was not due to superiority but divine will, adding, “I didn’t win because I’m perfect or better than others — only God installs kings.”
The Wole Oluyede Ekiti PDP unity push, he said, would continue as he works with party leaders at both national and zonal levels to consolidate support across the state.
In her remarks, Mrs Ogun said her decision to concede defeat was driven by a desire to preserve peace and stability within the PDP. “It may not have pleased all my supporters, but it was a necessary sacrifice to keep the party strong,” she said.
She expressed confidence that the PDP remained vibrant and poised for victory, declaring, “In Ekiti State, PDP is alive, moving forward, and will win the coming gubernatorial election.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Ekiti governorship poll for June 20, 2026.
Major contenders include Dr Wole Oluyede of the PDP, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress, Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, David Bankole of the Social Democratic Party, Blessing Abegunde of the NNPP, and philanthropist Opeyemi Falegan of Accord.
