Alex Otti denies APC defection rumours, affirming his commitment to the Labour Party and his ongoing transformation agenda for Abia State
Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, has strongly denied claims that he has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the reports as fabricated misinformation meant to distract the public and undermine ongoing development in the state.

Speaking through the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the governor reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party, the platform on which he was elected by a wide majority in 2023.
“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party,” said Kanu.
“These rumours are the handiwork of political propagandists threatened by his rising popularity and consistent delivery of good governance.”
The statement described the viral reports on social media suggesting a defection as a “desperate attempt to sow confusion” and distract citizens from the progress being made under Otti’s administration.
Kanu reminded the public that just last week, during the October edition of *”Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, the governor had made it clear that he was focused entirely on service delivery, not political manoeuvring.
“Leadership, to him, is about impact, not political convenience,” he stated.
The Commissioner went on to highlight key areas of the Otti administration’s achievements, including:
- Transparency and fiscal discipline
- Infrastructure renewal
- Economic growth and job creation
- Youth empowerment
- Restoring public confidence in governance
“These values are at the core of the Labour Party’s ideals — values the Governor is committed to and will not trade for political expediency,” the statement noted.
Kanu urged residents of Abia and the general public to disregard the rumour and treat it as a “cheap propaganda” tactic by opposition elements desperate to remain relevant in the face of increasing public support for the Otti-led government.
“Governor Alex Otti remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia where truth, justice, and equity prevail under the banner of the Labour Party,” the statement concluded.

The administration reiterated that its focus remains on rebuilding Abia State and delivering the dividends of democracy to its people, rather than being distracted by politically motivated gossip.
