The former Nigerian Vice President and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) will head the high-level Election Observation Mission (EOM) deployed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
His appointment signals a strong show of trust in his diplomatic acumen and regional credibility.
In a statement released by ECOWAS, the mission will be on the ground from 19 to 29 October 2025, engaging key stakeholders across Côte d’Ivoire.
The delegation, made up of respected West African figures, will assess the transparency of the electoral process, liaise with national institutions, and foster conditions for a peaceful and credible election.
Osinbajo’s role, ECOWAS added, will also involve cooperation with international and domestic observer groups to ensure a harmonised evaluation of the electoral environment.
His presence is expected to enhance confidence in the democratic process, particularly amid rising concerns about governance in the region.
ECOWAS reiterated that this mission is part of its wider effort to promote peace, stability, and credible elections throughout West Africa.
With several states in the region entering sensitive electoral cycles, the mission underscores a critical moment in the drive for democratic consolidation.
Côte d’Ivoire’s 2025 vote is already being closely watched, not only due to internal dynamics but also because of its potential to influence democratic trends in neighbouring countries.
